Species Information

Argentine Hognose Group (Lystrophis dorbignyi)

These members of Lystrophis are found from central Argentina north to Southeastern Brazil through Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. This group of Lystrophis are generally known as South American hognosed snakes and are rarely if ever seen in the United States.

Yarara is the term used to describe the species of Bothrops that inhabit the region, which dorbignyi largely mimics - hence the term Falsa Yarara..
