Introduction |
The western hognosed snake has seen a recent growth in popularity due to the maturation of herpetoculture as a whole. A large number of breeders have taken to breeding hognosed snakes for the pet trade, some producing numerous color morphs.
Western hognosed snakes, while threatened and protected throughout part of its range, in other areas, members of Heterodon nasicus are almost common. They are still collected to provide breeding stock and for export overseas.
Of all the species of Heterodon, nasicus is by far the easiest to maintain and breed. They make suitable pets for beginners and are also great as educational tools.

Heterodon nasicus gloydi is considered merely a range variation of the more commonly known plains hognosed snake. Taxononmic structure is presented to reflect this change. |
